Skyler Korgel is a mechanical engineer turned Texas legislative staffer running for Place 1 on the Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD) Board of Directors. After honing his property tax and appraisal policy skills while fighting against state leadership’s attacks on the fragile budgets of Texas schools and local governments, both outside and inside the Capitol, Skyler is running to improve property appraisal precision, taxpayer engagement, and Appraisal Review Board member education.

Through these efforts and more, Skyler will work to bridge the gap between appraised value and actual market value for large corporate commercial properties, so that mega-corporations with property in Travis County pay their due share of property taxes instead of shifting that tax burden onto the rest of us, while protecting vital funding for our local governments and public schools. Skyler is committed to maintaining competent, ethical, and transparent leadership at TCAD.

Serving as Legislative Director for State Representative Lulu Flores and as the Higher Education Policy Analyst at Every Texan, Skyler has dedicated his career to making Texas public policy more equitable, accessible, and compassionate to communities across Texas. As President of Stonewall Democrats of Austin, Skyler works to build LGBTQ+ political education, activation, and representation while working with community and local leaders to enact pro-equality policies throughout Austin and Central Texas.
